Chris Mitchem

Co-Founder & President

Christopher Mitchem is the President and a co-founder of VanceMitchem Public Affairs. In this role, Chris supports clients from a wide range of industries by researching issues and policy matters and developing strategies to advocate for client priorities. He also leads the communications services arm of VanceMitchem, where he implements strategy and coordinates outreach to clients of the firm.

Christopher previously worked as a Public Affairs Specialist for Bose Public Affairs Group where he advocated for clients at the Indiana Statehouse. Chris has experience in a variety of industries, including education, energy and utilities, transportation, and alcohol policy. Particularly, he was a part of a team that successfully lobbied for millions in funding for a not for profit that addresses mental health concerns in K-12 schools. He also led the firm’s legislative communications service—where he drafted issue specific briefs for over 80 registered state lobbying clients.

Prior to BPAG, Chris was as an advocacy and communications intern for the Indiana Hospital Association. In this role, he was responsible for conducting policy research, in addition to crafting messaging for key stakeholders and creating content for social media.

Prior to his experience at the Indiana Hospital Association, Christopher interned with Bose Public Affairs Group and provided support to the firm’s professionals and clients during the Indiana legislative session. Christopher also served on staff for the Indiana House of Representatives, where he assisted with communications materials for seven House legislators, including the chairs of the House Education Committee and the House Public Health Committee.

Chris earned his Bachelor of Arts in journalism and public relations with a minor in business from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and is currently pursuing a juris doctor degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Outside of the office, Chris serves as the Vice-Chair of Peace Restored, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women find hope and healing from difficult life experiences. He is also a member of the Indianapolis Equal Opportunity and Inclusion Board and the Marion County Judicial Selection Committee.
