LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE

VanceMitchem Public Affairs "VM" is seeking a state government relations intern for the

2023 Indiana Legislative Session. Applicants will have a paid, boots-on-the-ground role in assisting the VM state government relations team, including having a daily presence at the Indiana Statehouse, covering legislative committee hearings, and assisting with weekly VM publications.


Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated individual with a willingness to learn and adapt;

  • Knowledge of the Indiana legislative process; prior government affairs experience preferred;

  • Skillful writing and research skills; including the ability to summarize complex public policy;

  • Organizational skills;

  • Competent research ability; and

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Cover legislative committees and session meetings with detailed, accurate note taking;

  • Assist drafting portions of the weekly VM newsletter that is distributed to all of VM's clientele;

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all of VM's client priorities;

  • Research Indiana Code and other sources regarding client issues;

  • Maintain overall professionalism in all aspects of the role.

A cornerstone of the VM legislative internship experience is encouraging interns to participate in every aspect of state government there is to offer--therefore, we prefer applicants to have full-time availability during the work week. Class credit for students is also a possibility. Specific exceptions may be permitted.
